Resilience-based Development
The Risk & Resilience Assessment Center (RiskAC) research project is the joint effort of approximately 80 experienced and young researchers from Departments of the Democritus University of Thrace, the Aristotle University and from the Institute of Engineering Seismology and Earthquake Engineering.
Aim of the project is to strengthen the risk and resilience decision-making process of those who manage important sectors in the Prefecture of East Macedonia and Thrace in Greece.
The objective is to create an innovative risk and resilience assessment center which will:
- Collect and analyse data that “describe” natural and technological events (e.g. floods, earthquakes, technological disasters) within the Prefecture of East Macedonia and Thrace in Greece
- Define scenarios of potential natural and technological risks with their consequences
- Disseminate the results of risk and resilience analyses
The entire effort of the RiskAC team is based on the view that assessing the effects of natural and technological hazards on aspects of the society, such as, health, infrastructure, tourism, the environment, agricultural production, and the economy is knowledge that must be disseminated effectively to stakeholders, businesses, and citizens, to be able of achieving maximum performance and to timely adaptability to disturbances.
This research effort is supported by the Operational Program Competitiveness Entrepreneurship and Innovation EPANEK 2014-2020 and its projected duration is 30 months.
