Collaboration between the Municipality of Xanthi and RiskAC DUTH within the framework of the CLIMAAX program
The Risk and Resilience Assessment Centre (RiskAC) of the Democritus University of Thrace, in collaboration with the Municipality of Xanthi, launched the CARE_X project on December 20, 2024 (Climaax Action and Risk Evaluation of Xanthi) project, which is part of the European CLIMAAX program.
CLIMAAX (CLIMAte risk and vulnerability Assessment framework and toolboX) is a research project of the Horizon Europe (2023-2026) program, which aims to support cities and regions in Europe in managing climate change-related risks through tools, methodologies, and expertise.
Within the framework of CARE_X, the Municipality of Xanthi will systematically assess the main climate risks for the region (such as floods, heatwaves, forest fires), designing adaptation measures, and incorporating them into civil protection and risk management plans.
The main objectives of the project include:

- conducting a comprehensive risk assessment at a local level,

- the development of adaptation strategies that take into account local specificities,

- the strengthening of the municipality’s preparedness and response capacity to extreme events,

- organizing training activities and informational seminars for agencies and the community,

- disseminating the results to the local community and informing citizens.
